During the week you don’t get much down time; between work, your kids, errands, and everything in between, there isn’t a whole lot of time for 3 leisurely meals a day.
I’m not trying to belittle the importance of “you” time, however I’m not going to deny that it’s just absolutely impossible to get somedays. So instead of suggesting something unrealistic, I’m here to give you realistic and useful tips for your busy day.
Healthy, On The Go Snacks
Snacking throughout the day can help keep your appetite under control, promote weight loss, and keep your energy level up! One of the benefits of these 7 snacks is that they are portable, making them great for rushing around, multitasking and short breaks!
1. Coconut Milk
This delicious drink is great for a quick snack substitute because its extremely filling and it will make your sugar cravings subside. Coconut milk doesn’t need to be refrigerated so it’s a safe snack to have in your bag throughout the day.
Coconut milk is jam packed with lauric acid and fat burning triglycerides.
2. Hard Boiled Egg
I know the smell often turns people off, but one of the best ways to avoid this is to peel the egg at home and slice it in half. Store it in a tupperware container by itself or with other vegetables like sliced carrots and celery.
Hard boiled eggs will provide you with the energy you need around 2:00pm; just when you’re starting to feel early afternoon drowsiness.
3. Dark Chocolate
Sometimes when you’re feeling ravenous, your body is telling you to eat carbs and sugar… anything that will hamper that appetite quickly!
70% – 90% dark chocolate is an excellent snack to have on hand. One of the best ways to ensure you eat it in moderation is to only pack yourself a small amount. Don’t buy a dark chocolate bar when you’re running around because you’ll eat the entire thing!
Dark chocolate contains antioxidants, fiber, iron and magnesium… not to mention it’s delicous.
4. Green tea
If you don’t already drink green tea on a regular basis, you should start! Green tea is an excellent on-the-go snack because it will tide you over until your next meal. It’s versatile for all kinds of weather; it’s a cozy warm tea in the winter and it’s a refreshing iced drink in the summer.
Green tea contains antioxidants, and is proven to improve digestion, immunity, and aid in weight loss!
5. Slow-roasted nuts and seeds
Almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds and chia seeds are great snack for an on-the-go day! Just like dark chocolate, you want to eat these in moderation as they contain a high level of fat. A special warning for chai seeds is that you should always have a bottle of water on hand when you eat them; they make you dehydrated and can even make you constipated.
Bonus Snack: Sometimes we crave a little bit of a salt snack, so this nitrate-free, organic jerky option really fits the bill. It contains tons of protein, healthy fats! If beef isn’t your think, there is also great grass fed, organic turkey and salmon jerky!
