What do you do when you have leftovers? Well, chances are that the majority of you probably reheat the leftover food and try to enjoy it for a second time. For many cases this would be considered acceptable. However, there are certain foods that pose a risk to your health once they have been repeated.

The funny thing is that you would not even consider any of these foods to be possibly dangerous. The fact of the matter is that there are certain foods that do not have the same nutritious value after being reheated.

1. Beets

This vegetable contains nitrates, which are very good for you. However, this vegetable is not to harmful if heated up, but it is a food that doesn’t need to be re-heated.

2. Chicken

Eating chicken after a day or so is very dangerous. The composition of proteins will change, often causing digestive problems. In fact, chicken contains more protein than red meat. It is better to eat chicken cold, but if you feel it is necessary to heat up chicken make sure you do it over a long period of time on a low temperature.

3. Potato

Potato’s are actually very good for you. They contain a lot of nutritional value. However, once you let potatoes sit they can potentially lose their nutritional value, and even become quite toxic for your system.

4. Mushrooms

You may have heard some rumors about mushrooms over the years. They are actually the most well known food that should not be reheated. Mushrooms are supposed to be eaten after preparation. If you do feel necessary to eat them the next day make sure you eat them cold. Their composition of proteins will change after sitting. They can also cause health problems including digestive issues.

5. Spinach

Re-heating spinach is very dangerous. Spinach contains a high percentage of nitrates, but when you reheat spinach you actually turn them into nitrites. This is also carcinogenetic to the body. Spinach is better to eat right after preparation.

6. Eggs

This is a high-risk food to reheat because it can become toxic if exposed to high temperatures. However, this doesn’t apply to foods where eggs are involved throughout the preparation process. You mainly want to stay away from reheating boiled eggs or scrambled eggs.

7. Celery

This vegetable is mostly used for soups, and no one is complaining about that. Like other items on this list celery contains nitrates. But if you are going to reheat soup you should take out the celery, it is not good to reheat much like carrots. This is just a general understanding many people have with regards to this vegetable.

So next time you are thinking about throwing some leftovers in the microwave, or the oven, think about what you are reheating. If your meal consists of any of these foods you should definitely reconsider. But if you are going to reheat food, which is not recommended, think about the health risks that are associated.
